OneBlock (prototype)
This game is a submission for the GMTK Game Jam 2019.
A game made in under 48 hours.
My playthrough
About:
The theme of the jam is "Only one".
One Block is a puzzle-platformer with only one platform.
The game consists of 3 tutorial levels, 16 normal levels and only 1 last special level.
You have only one block to jump on at each level.
In each level, you have Teleporters, which you can set them in a specific order and time for the block to teleport to. The block teleportation only starts after the player moves or jumps, after that the block will start to teleport from teleporter to teleporter in the order the player set it to be. Makes it both a challenging puzzle and a challenging platformer. Be smart and be fast.
(The player can wall jump)
Teleporters Introduction:
Sorry if the mechanics seem too complicated at first. I realized I didn't explain the basic mechanics properly so I made an introduction to the teleporters here.
Rules:
- You can't change the teleporters after the block starts teleporting. You can do it only after you restart the level.
- The block starts to teleport after the main character moves.
- You can restart the level by pressing R and the teleporters will remain the same, giving you the chance to try again.
- You are only able to complete the level by standing on the block beneath the door, otherwise it doesn't count.
- The block will disappear once the teleportation is finished. So be fast on that last one, under the door, to complete the level.
1) Order:
You can set the order of the teleporters. The block will start going from teleporter 1 to the next until it reaches the last teleporter. You can set the number by clicking on the teleporter's number as shown below:
2) Timer:
The teleporters have a timer set on them. The timer is based on the number of ticks the teleporter has. Each tick adds 1/2 a second to the timer. After the timer ends, the block will continue going to the next teleporter. Basically 1 tick is 1/2 a second, 2 ticks is a second and 3 ticks are a second and a half:
3) Repetition:
The teleporters can not only teleport the block one after another, but also in the opposite. Right click on the number in order to set the repetition. Repetition is when the teleporter repeats itself before going further. As shown below, the teleporters acts normally, but some just repeat:
You can also set the repetition after a far away number:
4) Reset:
Middle click in order to reset the number/timer.
If played on browser it's recommended to turn full screen on.
5) Limitations:
Some teleporters have a limitation to their tick number. You'll see that in the game.
6) Sorry for the bugs:
Unfortunately the teleporters don't always behave as you would expect them to. Just be aware of that :)
Controls:
- A + D or Left Arrow + Right Arrow to move
- Space to jump
- R to restart
- Mouse to click
Personally, I had a lot of fun doing this game. I really liked this idea and it was totally worth putting the effort to make it.
The music is mine, I made it a couple of months ago. During the jam, I extended it a bit :)
For now, the game is not saving any progress on browser, so avoid refreshing the page!
